Thing 20-Games

Well, I found a free Frozen Game..I don't entirely understand how to play..it seems you are swiping and knocking down jewels of the same color and sometimes something freezes and more things break which seems to equal points..it gives you chances to buy more ways to earn points..could have a little more variety, but the music is nice and it's strangely addictive.

Am excited to try Frogger. I like Frogger-it reminds me of junior high when I went and played it in the arcade, but I think it may be buggy and not in a good way like bugs for the Frog, but in that after a few times of crossing or trying to cross the road, it kicks you out..wah,wah....

Found a Monsters University game for my son..did pay money for that.

Could be used for educational games for kids/adults in library....work together or on own.
Thing 19-Hobbies:

I tried Road Ninja because we like to take road trips. I think this could be nice. I am still getting used to it. I wonder..does it work if you don't have a wi-fi connection because unless my husband borrows a hot spot from work we often don't when traveling in the car...will have to experiment with this.

I have used Spotify not as a mobile device but at home. It seems nice. Not sure if I will download it since I have Freegal from the library. Maybe Spotify is better in some sense?

Not sure. I am reading the description and it talks about playlists which although you can create lists of songs in Freegal I guess you can't really make playlists that other people could access unless maybe you could create a library Freegal account? Hmmmm....

Okay, I tried it and it is fun to make playlists, plus they have one of my favorite songs from the 80's "I want to be a lifeguard". I had to buy the cd a few years ago, because I couldn't get it from ILL since it was only on record albums....oh, my.

Thing 18-Education

So ironically I already have the Bill Nye app-yes we love all things Bill Nye at our house and we eagerly awaited the free app from Disney. It si fun in that you have to "scan" your finger to get in. There are about 6 experiments you can try, Bill Nye Clips (attached to ways to download more for $), a space game, other alien games, a periodic table..not bad..could be a little less commercial, but fun for Bill Nye fans.

Russian Alphabet

Russian Alphabet

I was looking for an app to help my son learn the letters of the Russian alphabet and more importantly be able to practice writing them and I found this one. It isn't free, but it isn't very expensive and I like it because in the study mode you can click on the leters, hear the letter and a word the letter appears in and when you click on the pencil icon you have a screen where you can trace the letter with your finger or a stylus and you can remove the letter so you see just your own writing and you can change colors of the writing if you like. There are also quizzes. It's not too bad.

The 3d Brain is cool to look at, spin around, and find different areas..this could be good for studying and I think my son will have fun looking around it.

Thing 17-Well, I wanted to download the Mpls. skyway app, but although I can find it, I can't get to a page where I can download it..the closest I get is a white box in the middle of the screen..arrgh! Can't get it to bring up Minnesota Explore or Saint Paul Connect either..maybe bad wi-fi connection at library..will have to try at home..sigh!
Minnesota 511

Did manage to load Minnesota 511 which is not quite as exciting as I thought it would be, but it does show highways and if there is construction, or whether there are accidents, etc. You can search by place or by highway and then you can click on the symbols to see what exactly is going on. You get lots of pop-ups making you promise not to drive and use the app and to be sure you are being safe. You can put in other cities, states, etc, but it doesn't show the construction/accident symbols.

I couldn't get the Mpls skyway app, but I did find one called Citybot that has an app for Minneapolis. You can create an itinerary where you select a starting spot, ending spot and then can select where you would like to stop in between like events, museums, snacks, etc and you can say whether you want to walk or drive (wish there was public transit option and/or skyway option...), this could be pretty handy for trips to Mpls. They have apps for other cities as well (not St. Paul, but San Diego, Washington D.C., etc..) You can also search a particular location. A nice feature is it does show hours and it does give other people's reviews of places.

Thing #16: Audio: I tried audioboo and soundcloud and they seem ok. Maybe for book trailers or podcasts or clips to use for radio or social media sites? I thought soundcloud would have more of a library, but maybe I have to look at it more. I downloaded ipadio but was having trouble setting up an account. Will have to try again.

About thing #15..I can't get my infographic to show up. I tried copying and pasting it and this didn't seem to work and when I try to edit the post now it jumps around. This (below) I made with Visualize free. It took a while to make as I had to find and copy visuals to camera and then to gallery to create stickers. I learned you should save frequently as sometimes the app unexpectedly kicked me out. The map is the one I couldn't get to copy and paste and after way too much time I got it to load to Picasso and was able to attach it. I would like some sort of reward now for not giving up.

Thing 15 Infograhics: I tried info.graphics and it has nice images, but doesn't have a way to search. Ivisual is nice, but seems limited in the free version. Visualize free looks really cool in the video, but it does appear that you may need to preload or simultaneously load your images.

This a very basic infographic made in Ivisual:

Thing 14-Videos...

I will have to try these, but I have to admit I am too self conscious to play with this up in the staff area at work..The other problem is by the time I finish reading about the apps and watching the instructional video I run out of time to actually try the app...will have to do this, but right now just trying to make sure I actually look at all of the Things....

Vine looks interesting and I like the article on some ways to use it for libraries..could be nice for previews of rennovated buildings, events, highlighting collections....I couldn't find a way to download vine.

Viddy looks similarly interesting, but SocialCam looks good because it is longer although the comments on the app store page make it look like it has some problems with updates/bugs. What is disappointing me is that I can't change the filter while filming and it doesn't seem to have audio;that is other than music so it is kind of like Magisto:

 http://giddy.it/SeCxbO    (this is about Viddy)

Social cam I like more because it did record me speaking, but I still wish I could adjust the filter while filming:

Magisto sounds interesting..maybe at an event where you might just shoot short clips then you could combine them to make a video and put it on the website or a place where people could log in and see it...it is too bad about not combining photos and videos..I think you can do this on Macs...will have to see if can do this on Ipad...http://magis.to/OHYqAVFDCFc4fykGDmEwCXx4

I heard about an app called VidRhythm which is supposed to be the fastest way to make a music video..will have to give it a try..and comment further. Vidrhythm is very fun and easy. Here is my son giving it a go:

here is a YouTube video on how to do it:

Thing 13 Presentations:

I haven't created any presentations yet so I will have to get back on that, but based on reading each info page for each one and watching videos I think I would really like to try Haiku Deck...it seems interesting and easy and I am thinking about it because my co-worker and I are going to do some teen activities this summer and we wanted to take photos and then have a slide presentation of the photos at the end to show what everyone did and this looks like a nice way to do it. What I am worried about and I will have to test this on the ipad to see if this is the case is that I can't get anyone else's Haiku Deck presentations to play...when I click on the links presented I couldn't get it to show anything there was an icon image but I couldn't get anything to work..maybe our computers at work are too old or don't have the right software? Will have to try on ipad.

I read about Educareations in a list of apps recommended by Upstream Arts (www.upstreamarts.org, which is an organization that works on using the arts with people who have the attribute of being diff-abled to help them thrive). I think this could be great for presentations and for teaching materials either in-house or externally. I made a presentation based on something my son and I read in a book:http://www.educreations.com/lesson/view/otter-food-chain-conservation/21545168/?s=f7L9E2&ref=app

Lensoo sounds interesting, but their isn't much on how to create a presentation or with presentation created by it so I guess I will have to play around with this one to see what it is like. This is the same for Deckslide show. Lensoo seems like something that might be nice for interactive activities with kids, teens, etc..at least this is what it made it look like with Lensoo's video..maybe something for CreaTech or maker space where kids/teens, etc could be creating/experimenting with making their own content.   I did make a lensoo presentation with my son and I like the geometric shapes.  http://create.lensoo.com/watch/b69D.

Deckslide seems like it could be a nice way to create a presentation once you have content ready.
